One of the most important things for a
sniper is the environment around him. Snipers must use their
environment for camouflage and there are many different ways of doing
this. For the sniper to be able to achieve success, he needs to blend
in with his surroundings. He needs to be able to get in and get out
unnoticed.
Just as important to the sniper as a
perfect spot to sit is the best technique for blending in with the
environment. Before you can use your environment to help you
camouflage, you need to know what type of environment you are going to
be in so you can create your ghillie suit to match that enviroment.
Do you need to hide in tall grasses
and keep your head low for hunting turkey? Will you be in the woods
sighting deer? Will you be in a dark green, mossy area? Will you be in
desert sands or tall grasses? You need to find out as much as possible
about your environment first before you go out as a sniper.
It’s important to scope out the area before the day you will
be there so you know how to prepare your ghillie suit.
Snipers use their environment for
camouflage by blending in with what is already there in the
surroundings. It’s not enough to just camouflage the fact
that you are a human. You also need to be sure you camouflage yourself
into the environment so you do not appear out of place.
The best way for a sniper to achieve
this is to look as much like their surroundings as possible. Not only
do you want your clothing to be the color and pattern of the
environment around you but you also want to disguise your shape and
outline. Ghillie suits do this very well by disguising the shape of
your head and allowing you to blend in very well behind trees or while
in a prone position, aimed to fire.
In addition, you will want to cover
any parts of your skin that are standing out in the environment. If you
are in a green or lush area, you may want to paint your face shades of
green because human skin colors tend to stick out. If you are in a
desert-type area, you can paint your face accordingly. The same
principle works for timber or woody areas as well.
Smart snipers allow the environment to
help them camouflage both themselves and also their weapon. They can
hide in wait until the perfect moment to snipe their prey. Using this
technique, the sniper will never let on to the prey (or anything else)
that they are there. This gives you an incredible advantage.
